Bongo Bob is a system extension (INIT) that will display a wacky, obnoxious, or meaningful saying when your Macintosh starts up.
Bongo Bob is PHOTOWARE! If you decide to keep Bongo Bob in your software library, please send the author a funny, odd, strange, weird, or wild picture of yourself (Please be sure to put your name, city, and state on the back of the photo.) ••• System Requirements •••
Bongo Bob system will work on any color or B & W Macintosh and requires system 6.0.5 or higher. NOTE: For best performance results, Bongo Bob SHOULD be used on a Mac running System 7.
••• Bongo Bob Installation •••
System 6 - Place the "Bongo Bob" INIT and the appropriate "Bongo Bob Data" file into the system folder.
System 7 - Place the "Bongo Bob" System Extension into the "System Folder:Extensions:" folder. Place the appropriate "Bongo Bob Data" file directly into the System Folder.
••• Special Features •••
Bongo Bob may be "paused" by holding down the mouse button. The boot process of your machine will remain "paused" until the mouse button is released, thereby allotting more time to read extremely LARGE fortunes.
Bongo Bob can be made to repeat the last fortune it displayed. To do this, simply press and hold the "R" key before Bongo Bob's window appears on the screen.
Bongo Bob is "roommate friendly." The startup sound that accompanies Bongo Bob will not play between the hours of 11 P.M. and 11 A.M.
••• Editing Fortunes •••
The "Bongo Bob Data" file is simple text file that may edited by Microsoft Word and any other word processor that can export the data back into an ASCII text file (MS Word refers to this file format as "Text Only.")
••• Switching Fortune Files •••
Bongo Bob's active Fortune file may be switched at any time. Simply replace the "Bongo Bob Data" file in your system folder with another "Bongo Bob Data" file and restart.
••• Adding a New Fortune •••
When adding a new fortune to the "Bongo Bob Data" file, please make sure that the fortune ends in "%%" with a carriage return following.
An example fortune file would look something like this :
